Earth Sciences Week

The Mayborn Museum Complex is proud to host Earth Sciences Week from October 9, 2017 through October 13, 2017 with daily activities from 10:00am to 2:00pm. Earth Science Week, an annual national program, promotes awareness of what geoscience tells us about human interaction with the planet’s natural systems and processes. The Museum and Baylor University researchers will offer learning resources and activities to engage young people and others in exploring the relationships between human activity and the geosphere (earth), hydrosphere (water), atmosphere (air), and biosphere (life). 

 

Climate Change: Earth’s Past, Present, and Future

Join Dr. Dan Peppe, Associate Professor and Graduate Program Director in Baylor University’s Department of Geosciences, and other Baylor professors and students as they help us promote the annual Earth Science Week. The Mayborn Museum is proud to host Climate Change: Earth’s Past, Present and Future featuring Kerry Cook from University of Texas at Austin and Dr. Sarah Feakins from University of Southern California. They will present research on the past, present, and future implications of climate change. The symposium will conclude with a panel discussion featuring our two speakers and Baylor University professors. Admittance to the lecture is free for members, Baylor University students, faculty, and staff, and included in general admission for the public ($8 for adults, $7 for seniors, and $6 for children). Cowboys, Cattle & Culture of the Chisholm Trail

Distinguished public speaker, Doug Harman, lectures about the cowboys who blazed the Chisholm Trail, the cattle they diligently herded, and the culture that embalmed their journey. Admittance to the lecture is free for members and included in general admission for the public ($8 for adults, $7 for seniors, and $6 for children). Coffee and pastries will be provided prior to the lecture. 

 

Sic 'Em Science Day: Bears Teaching Cubs

Mayborn Museum staff and Baylor University professors and students will bring the art of science to life through a variety of activities and demonstrations from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm.

A Chemistry Magic Show will take place at 3:00 pm in the Governor Bill and Vara Daniel Historic Village as Baylor University chemistry students showcase their educational talents as they bring together the art of science and magic.

Admission to the museum includes all activities and events. Baylor University students and museum members receive free admission. The Chemistry Magic Show may be cancelled in the event of inclement weather. For information on the status of the event, please call the museum at (254)710-1110.
